Yet another wonderful masonic evening.
Last night was a masonic evening to remember at Marquis of Granby Lodge. The evening commenced with opening the lodge, followed by the usual business of minutes of the last meeting then we closed and retired to the gardens for pre-prandial potations (pre dinner drinks) with our wives, partners and friends.
For a reigning worshipful master visiting another masonic lodge, it is always a great experience as you are treated with the utmost respect and entertained royally, as was the case at my visit to Marquis of Granby Lodge. On arrival my wife and I were greeted by the worshipful master and members of his masonic lodge and my wife sat with other masonic wives whilst we men went and did the lodge business. Drinks in the terraced gardens followed the lodge and then a hog roast for dinner, a splendid meal eaten in the very impressive surroundings of Durham Masonic Hall dining room. There are a number of lodges meet in the Durham Masonic Hall so old friends were there in plenty and this made for a very enjoyable atmosphere. After dinner the lodge had arranged a “Pub Quiz” type of event and we all made up teams and tried our general knowledge, not very successfully for some. As a fund raiser the lodge ran a raffle where many members had donated prizes and raised £276 for masonic charities, an impressive sum for the evening.
My wife and I left about 22.30 having been royally entertained – roll on the next visit.
