Director of Ceremonies (D of C) – City Lodge of Freemasons 3568

My name is John Gibson, a member of City Lodge for over thirty years, serving as  Master in 1993/94.  Throughout the intervening thirty years a number of enduring friendships within the  Masonic movement have been fostered and I presently enjoy that experience within   the Province of Durham, the North East and beyond.

In February 2015 I was appointed to my present office of Director of Ceremonies.  The function of the office of the Director of Ceremonies (D of C) is to ensure the efficient discharge of the  multifarious duties devolving upon the D of C; in particular, those relating to ritual,   etiquette together with Masonic regulations, customs and practices.

I am a retired local government officer.

A Director of Ceremonies is one who should control, without more than a glance, nod or a slight movement of the hand or head. To encourage the ‘junior members’ of the Lodge to get involved in part of the ritual and hopefully prepare them for the Master’s Chair.
