Summer Break – City Lodge of Freemasons 3568
Well its that time of year when we all think of sun and holidays. Here at City Lodge we take our summer break from June to October so there will be no more meetings until October. As Worshipful Master I shall continue to visit other masonic lodges where I can but most lodges take a summer break.
Last Thursday was our last meeting before the break and as has become customary at City Lodge we held an open evening following a short business meeting. The main items on our agenda were some changes in our lodge bye-laws which will be submitted to Provincial Grand Lodge before we can implement them. It’s hoped that we can implement these changes during my term of office but the wheels of masonic democracy grind just as slowly as most democratic wheels.
To celebrate our summer break we entertained our wives/partners/friends to dinner and entertainment. Sixty two of us sat down to dinner at approximately 19.45 following drinks in the gardens. A meal of prawn cocktail followed by chicken in bell pepper sauce, strawberries and cream and cheese and biscuits was enjoyed by all and we then were royally entertained by the musical renditions of W. Bro Peter Johnson, past master of Sanctuary lodge and a very good friend of City Lodge. The raffle raised £136 which will go towards masonic charities and £50.00 was presented to Peter to be passed onto his favoured charities. Most people left at about 22.30 although a few stalwarts retired to the bar for a night cap. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable masonic evening.
